Considering Your Options

Choosing a hospice is about finding the right fit for your loved ones’ needs and your family’s peace of mind. Consider your options: research different hospices, their services, their history, and their values. The hospice you choose should offer specific care plans, ensuring your loved ones’ comfort and dignity.

As a hospice patient, your loved one is entitled to 4 levels of care:

  • Home hospice, where patients are cared for in their homes or long-term care facilities
  • General inpatient care for pain and symptom management at an actual hospice facility
  • Continuous care in your home for symptom management; and
  • Respite care for when a caregiver needs a break, and a hospice professional can step in to assist

A hospice provider must tell you how they will provide these important levels of care should you or your loved one need them.
Communication is vital.

When choosing a hospice, know that it is not legal to offer you or your loved one something in return like gift cards, cash, or even rent for signing on to their hospice.
