Welcome to Choosing Hospice

Choosing a hospice provider is the most critical decision you will make for your loved one. There are many choices in our community. Before you make such an important decision, please consider the following information:

  • A recent study found that 56% of people prefer honesty and hope as necessary information from their provider regarding end-of-life care. You should expect the same from your hospice provider.
  • Consider the profound impact of hospice providers deeply rooted in their communities. Recent studies indicate that these providers offer the highest-quality care, understanding their pivotal role in supporting community members during this critical time. Their established relationships with key stakeholders and other entities ensure patients and their families can access all necessary resources, fostering a sense of belonging and support.
  • Hospice organizations that adhere to best practices for patient care have Medicare accreditation that highlights their efforts. A complete review of a home hospice agency’s organization and operations is required. The home hospice agency must demonstrate the ability to meet predetermined criteria and standards of accreditation established by a professional accrediting agency.
  • Home hospice accreditation aims to ensure that the agency is credible, reputable, and dedicated to continuous compliance with the highest quality standards.

The federal government and CMS have approved three organizations to perform Medicare surveys for Medicare accreditation for a home hospice agency. They are as follows:

  • CHAP – The Community Health Accreditation Program
  • ACHC – The Accreditation Commission for Health Care
  • JCAHO – The Joint Commission
